Meet the Person Behind Cybridge: John Bridge
I've never been very good at talking about myself. I'm much more comfortable talking about threat actors, infostealer campaigns, or why your organisation's domain just appeared in a stealer log. But if you're going to trust someone with your security, you probably want to know who they are. Without doxing myself, here goes.
From Reuters to Red Teams
My career in technology started back in 1996 at Reuters, where I spent 14 years managing the technical side of their Channel Islands business which was a $10 million portfolio covering trading platforms, infrastructure, and client relationships. It was a world away from offensive security, but it gave me something that a lot of cybersecurity people lack: a genuine understanding of how businesses operate, what keeps executives awake at night, and how technology failures translate into real commercial pain.
When Reuters pulled out of the Channel Islands in 2011, I took it as an opportunity to pivot. I set up Bridge Consulting Ltd and began working in security and IT consulting for local businesses. What I found was a market that desperately needed practical security expertise, not theoretical compliance frameworks, but people who could actually find the holes and help fix them.
Building a Cybersecurity Function from Scratch
In 2013 I joined JT Global as their first and, for a while, only dedicated cybersecurity professional within the Consulting Team. What followed was eleven years of building, creating products, winning contracts, assembling a team, and delivering services that ranged from ethical hacking and vulnerability management to breach alerting.
By the time I left JT at the end of 2024 following their strategic decision to refocus on core telecoms, I was ready to start something quite niche.
The Academic Bit
I didn't rest on practical experience alone. Between 2018 and 2020, while working full time, I completed a Master's degree in Cyber Security at the University of Northumbria, graduating with a Distinction. My dissertation was a thesis on Surveillance Capitalism: how personal data is harvested, monetised, and weaponised which feels more relevant now than when I wrote it. The thesis was published in 2020 in the book "Strategy, Leadership, and AI in the Cyber Ecosystem"
On the certifications side, I hold CEHv13, CPTP, CHFI, CWSP, CWDP, and a stack of others accumulated over two decades. More recently I've completed the UK Home Office PHIA New Analyst Programme and the Manchester CF Financial Intelligence Specialist qualification, reflecting the investigative intelligence work I now do alongside the security consultancy.
What I Do Now
In 2025 two things happened simultaneously: I set up CyBridge Limited, and I joined a specialist UK Intelligence unit that shall not be named. The consultancy exists to serve clients who needed my slightly niche services, and has grown from there. The core services are breach intelligence monitoring, penetration testing, OSINT investigations, and security advisory. The demand of Cybridge's services has allowed me to drop my hours down at the Intelligence Unit
I'm also in the top 1% of users on TryHackMe.com, out of over six million users. I dont believe this is that big of a deal, but this is quite a big part of my mentoring passion which I will talk about in another blog shortly, it also shows that I spend way too much time on CTF platforms!
Clearances, If That Matters to You
I hold SC clearance and NPPV2, and am currently undergoing DV clearance. For government and law enforcement clients, this matters alot as it means I can work in environments where the material is sensitive and the stakes are real.
The Human Bit
Outside of work, I live on the east coast of Jersey with my wife, our dog, and varying degrees of gardening chaos. Our son is a lawyer in Paris, and our daughter works for Microsoft in Cheltenham, so we're a house that takes technology seriously.
I'm a passionate Portsmouth FC supporter, which requires a particular kind of resilience that has, I suspect, made me better at incident response. I'm also a keen MotoGP fan, there's something about the combination of precision engineering, calculated risk, and split-second decision making that appeals to the same instincts as security work, that and the sheer madness of scratching knee pads, elbow pads and shoulder pads around corners at immense speeds.
Why CyBridge?
There are plenty of large security firms. What Cybridge offers is different: a senior practitioner with 25+ years of experience at the highest levels, a genuine intelligence background, and the ability to work at board level or deep in the technical weeds, depending on what you need.
If you want to know whether your organisation's credentials are already in criminal hands, whether your perimeter is as solid as you think, or whether your team has the investigative capability to handle what's coming - I'd like to help.
